Ingredients
Vegetables, herbs & spices
On our ingredients page, you will find a list containing some 30 different kinds of
food staples and seasonings commonly used in African cuisine. At this moment
this list includes only vegetable staples, but it will be updated with some of
the animal- and fish products used in African cooking. Under each
product/staple, you will find information concerning origin and use. Some
historical information is also added under most of the ingredients. GO!
Recipes
Classics
from the West African Cuisine
On our
recipes page, the intention has been to present traditional and
modern recipes from all over Africa on these pages, alongside
with the possibility to share the dishes you have invented
yourself with the rest of the world.
At this time, however, there will only be a couple
of recipes here because this page recently has been introduced.
Thus we have chosen to start with some of the most popular and
famous dishes from the western part of the continent, including Yassa and Jollof Chicken. These two dishes are most common in
Senegambia, but are served all over West Africa. They are very
tasteful dishes and highly recommended! Both dishes are also
quite easy to prepare. GO!
We need your help!
You are invited to send us hints and critics, your recipes
and additional ideas of how to prepare traditional dishes in alternative ways.
Have you found an ingenious way to make an old dish more tasty? Is your mothers
way of preparing Palava Chicken simply the best? Or did you observe some odd
ingredients passing by a small village in the bush?
