The Africa and Middle East site of the BBC World Services offers updated news, articles and other media services on Africa.

The Financial Times is one of the world's leading business newspapers with a global outlook. You can also go directly to their Middle East and Africa page.

The Independent is an excellent British newspaper with a wide international coverage. You might want to go directly to their Africa page, where the latest articles about the continent are listed.

The International Herald Tribune is a daily newspaper edited in Paris with a focus on news from all over the world. Published with The New York Times & The Washington Post. 

The New York Times is one of the most important US newspapers, having a relatively good international coverage, including an Africa page. Most international articles, however, are by AP or Reuters.

The Washington Post is a prestigious US newspaper with an ample international coverage. You might want to go directly to their Africa page or Sudan page, were the last articles from WP are listed.

Times Internet Edition (UK) is the internet edition of the world's oldest daily newspaper. The sister paper, the Sunday Times Internet Edition has its own website. Relatively good international coverage.

With its 21 member states and population of 385 million it forms a major integrated trading block. Very informative and ample site about the regional economy. There also exists a Sudan Page.

Mbendi Consultants' country profile on Sudan concentrates on economical issues. Statistics on communications and information technology, etc.

Planet Business-Sudan offers interesting data of the country's economic situation for importers, exporters, distributors and traders. 

Sudan Economic Development and Indicators is an annual NewAfrica country profile on their pages about African economy. They use the IMF as their primary source, which should guarantee for their quality.

General Information/Read about Sudan

The U.S. government has several informative, though subjective, pages about most countries in the world, including Sudan, being regularly updated. Big resources are used to produce and maintain these pages. The CIA Factbook 2000 is probably the best and most updated collection of data on the web. 
   Another informative site is the annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices Released by the U.S. State Department. Yet another, the travel warnings to each country of the world, by the same department.

The Spanish spoken website of the Basque publishing house Ikuska has pages on all African countries with relatively good statistical data and fuller information on ethnic groups.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has a very ample country profile of Sudan. Includes lots of humanitarian information, especially about internally displaced people ("IDPs") and links to other resources (maps, etc). Very informative!

Human Rights

The Committee to Protect Journalists has a small, but interesting rapport about the situation of the press in Sudan in 1997.

The most informative site about human rights in Sudan is the annual Country Report on Human Rights Practices Released by the U.S. State Department. Big, elaborated report about the state of human rights in Sudan.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) is a reknown US human rights group with a special focus on Sudan. Relatively objective to be based in the US. HRW's Sudan page keeps you updated on Sudanse human rights issues, including the civil war in the south.  

The US Committee on Refugees is also especially comitted to the human rights situation in Southern Sudan, where it has been strongly presented for a long time. The USCR is more biased against the Khartoum regime, but is in general a very reliable watchdog.

In Afrique francophone, only in French, you'll find links to some sites in francophone countries and francophone Africa in general. 

The Index on Africa' Sudan page includes various links. The index is created by The Norwegian Council for Africa, with the aim to strengthen the knowledge of Africa and African affairs. Their main page also has news and there are links to all countries on the continent.

Africaguide.com is a website with complete travel information on 51 African countries. In its pages about Sudan you'll find data about region and towns, accommodation, tours and more.

Atevo travel destinations offers practical data about Sudan, besides some travel guides. 

Excite Travel has a site-page on Sudan with some useful information and maps.

Lonely Planet, the famous publisher of budget travel guides, has pages on each African country. On their Sudan Page you'll find country background information and facts (overviews) for the traveler (money & costs, when to go, attractions, activities, getting there, getting around, etc.), if there's not a travel warning. Detailed facts only in the guide books.

The U.S. State Department files travel information and warnings for all countries, world wide. Their annually updated pages contain a short description of the country and useful information about safety, crime rate, health services and insurance. Aimed at U.S. citizens, but useful for anybody. World Online Travel Agency for airlines, hotels, car hires, adventures in Africa has a page on Sudan. You won't find too much information, but they have detailed maps of the country.

World Travel Guide's entry to Sudan: This is a good, informative and well organised site. Lists all kind of practical information (passport, visa, etc.) and has an introduction to Sudanese tourist sites. Guides exist to all countries. You might want to go to their Africa Page.
