Here a list of sites were you can expect to find specific information about economy & business when you search their database on a word like "finance" or the name of a country. You should try to narrow your search, and preferably use narrow categories.

UNIONS is the United Nations International Organizations Network Search. Here you can search within all the UN-system, including sub-organizations. Labourstart is an elaborated South African resource on labour issues, which carries daily labour/business news headlines from Africa. Recommended news resource. 

La Vie Économique is a weekly, successful, Moroccan journal. It focuses on economy, but also it offers society and political news, etc. French.

L'Économiste is the most important economy news media in Morocco. Daily updated economic features. French.

Mail & Guardian - business  is the daily updated economy section of South Africa's leading daily newspaper.

The Economic Commission for Africa, by United Nations, offers the latest economic news about Africa, along with publications, reports, forums and more. 

Wall Street Journal. Daily news and articles from the journal are available, plus continuously updated business news from the U.S. and around the world. 

The Economist is an experimental home page of The Economist, "the international weekly journal of news, ideas, opinion and analysis." It offers selected articles and surveys.

Financial Times is probably the most recognized economical daily. US and global focus.

FINWeb is a well developed site, which allows you to search easily for the financial news and information you want

The Journal of Empirical Generalisations in Marketing Science was the first online journal for marketing, consumer behavior, and strategy research. Articles are to be read in Adobe Acrobat.

The Economic Commission for Africa, by United Nations, offers a site with interesting forums covering African economy.

Morgan Stanley: Global Economic Forum: contains  lots of articles, news, links, etc. about economy and a forum. The company's website also offers information about themselves, investor relations and the state of the market. 

The Foundation for Economic Education , founded in 1946," FEE here summarizes its books, seminars, and discussion clubs, and offers links and a free sample of its monthly magazine, "The Freeman."

Worldclass offers lot of business news. It also includes information on business and economic development conferences and organizations. Links.

Organisations

The Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa offers information about their conferences, publications and discussions.

Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) is an organisation of free independent states cooperating. With its 21 member states and population of 385 million it forms a major integrated trading block. Very informative and ample site about the regional economy. There also exist country pages. 

The Dead Economists Society presents portraits and quotes  in appreciation of "the extraordinary insights of classical liberal economics." Easy reading, with related links.

The East African Co-operation (EAC) is an inter-governmental organization with the mandate to promote regional integration and development among the Republics of Kenya, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania.

The Economic Commission for Africa, by United Nations, offers the last economic news about Africa, among their publications, reports, forums and more. 

ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) has a site with a presentation of the organisation and its member countries. ECOWAS headquarters' are in Abuja, Nigeria. Its objectives are to promote cooperation and integration, leading to the establishment of an economic union in West Africa. Member states: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. Also in French. FAO, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has a press releases page with articles about agriculture in Africa.

The Financial Sector Forum of South Africa offers dates and information about financial institutions, markets, economic development, etc.

IFCTU is the international federation of trade unions, which also organises most African unions. Provides an elaborated site with breaking news. Golbal Focus, but much information on African labour issues. 

The Life in Africa Foundation is mainly dealing with microfinance. "Microfinance" is about savings and loan services tailored to the needs of the poor. Site informative on this issue and on economic life in Africa. Personal.

Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a global organisation seeing to that "the good times keep on coming". They are working for continued economic growth and make annual reports about the member countries, tipping on possible improvements.

Southern African Development Community (SADC) is a regional, transnational organisation. Member States are Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Each member State has responsibility to coordinate a sector or sectors on behalf of the others. SADC headquarters are in Gaborone, Botswana. The working languages of SADC are English, French and Portuguese. Site mostly in English and informative. Country profiles.

USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, offers yearly reports on agriculture in the USA and some info about the situation in others countries.

The Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa offers information about their conferences, publications and discussions.

CILSS, the Permanent Interstates Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel, is based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Member states are Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, Gambia, Guinea- Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal. CILSS studies and monitors the Sahel and work with drought preventing. Site mostly in French.

CGIAR, the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, is to contribute to food security and poverty eradication in developing countries through research, partnership, capacity building, and policy support. The CGIAR promotes sustainable agricultural development. Informative site.

FAO, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has a press releases page with articles about agriculture in Africa.

Land Reform Research is South Africa's Online Land Reform Resource. Provides information for everyone with an interest in land reform in South Africa, including on-going project information, published research, research archives, events and daily press material.

Lifewater International is a Christian organisation helping the rural poor to obtain safe water. Informative site which calls for action. Also has a page called "Get HELP for your water problems".

Ministry of Agriculture, Food Technology and Natural Resources of Mauritius: Incentives, facilities, and services in the agricultural sector.

National Department of Agriculture, South Africa: here you can meet the agriculture minister, among to find some practical information.

NewAfrica - Agriculture has lots of updated information about African agriculture, including weekly news, statistics and some country reports. 

Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI) is an international NGO based in Winnipeg, Canada. RAFI is dedicated to the conservation and sustainable improvement of agricultural biodiversity, and to the socially responsible development of technologies useful to rural societies.

Rural Water Systems is a Dutch organization that aims at realistic sustainable solutions in Rural Water supply in Africa and specializes on handpump operation and maintenance. Informative site. 

USAID in Senegal, Africa Online offers a report about the natural resource management in Senegal.

Centre for Development and Enterprise (CDE), South Africa, is a business-funded policy research and advocacy organisation that aims to develop policies on crucial national issuesand thereby to influence national policies.

EcEdWeb is The Economic Education Website, which  is a great resource for economics educators, K-12 through college. Lesson plans, a multitude of annotated links.

National Institute for Economic Policy (NIEP), South Africa, is an independent black-led economic research institute servicing the mass democratic movement and government with research, education and training in the area of economic policy for sustainable development.

PRODDER (Programme for Development Research) aims to provide an appropriate, comprehensive and dynamic information service on all Southern African development issues and role-players.

School of Marketing, Several Griffith University:  school of marketing publications online make this a great resource: The Cyber-Journal of Sport Marketing.

Trade Union Research Project (TURP), South Africa, undertakes research and education for trade unions and federations, and develops and publishes specific materials for union needs. TURP is situated at the Centre for Industrial, Organisational and Labour Studies at the University of Natal, Durban.

COSATU is the Congress of South African Unions - the leading trade union in South Africa. It is the most informative website on African labour issues, also making a big effort to collect and present all relevant news headlines from Africa and the world. Most comprehensive list of links and e-mail addresses to African unions. Offers free online mail for union members. A strongly recommended resource!

 

Development Institute for Training, Support and Education for Labour (Ditsela) is a South African institution established by the major trade union federations in South Africa (COSATU and FEDUSA). Ditsela's central achieve is to have set up programmes in education and training, support for union education and organisational development. 

 

FEDUSA is the federation og (trade) unions of South Africa. Web site interesting to learn about the structure of syndicalism in South Africa - somewhat for insiders.

The Job Creation Trust (South Africa) is an Initiative of COSATU, FEDUSA and NACTU. At the 1998 Presidential Jobs Summit, organised labour pledged to contribute one day's wages on 3 March 1999 into a national fund set up in order to fund a range of job creation projects.

DeBeers is the main multinational marketing diamonds, thus very influential on African soil. It only presents itself on Internet through its marketing deparmtent (CSO), which operates the site "Forevermark" (or Diamond Information Centre) promoting the sale of diamonds. Chamber of Mines of South Africa is a comprehensive cyber resource of news, data and policy information on mining from the perspective of business.

Infomine is a comprehensive daily news media reporting on the international mining industry. Mostly corporate news, though. Very good place to keep updated on what happens outside Africa.
