Education Searches

Here a list of sites were you can expect to find specific information about education when you search their database on a word like "teaching" or the name of a country. You should try to narrow your search, and preferably use narrow categories.

UNIONS is the United Nations International Organizations Network Search. Here you can search within all the UN-system, including sub-organizations. Expect to find too much documents, reports, articles, etc. about education. You should try to narrow your search with words like the name of a country or "literacy".

UNESCO-search - (UN-org.) Their database contains loads of document related to education, science and culture and related items in all the world. You should enter the name of a country, region, or any specification you are looking for (like "literacy") to narrow your search results.

Yahoo-search - Yahoo helps you find websites related to education, although you'll have no idea what you'll find clicking their links...

ICOM, the International Council of Museums has a special page about African Art History. You'll find a complete list of African objects with all their dates. Recommended! 

Association des Etudiants et Résidents Nigériens aux USA is the Association of Nigerien Students and Residents in the USA. It's in elaboration, without English version.

The Council on International Educational Exchange offers in its website information about their study programs in some African countries.

The Institute of International Education helps you to find information about study program in all the world.

Rainbow Organization is the Gay, Bi and Lesbian Organization of the University of Cape Town. Read about its history, activities, etc. But no-updated.

The Student Organisation of the University of Cape of Town, South Africa.

UNESCO is the UN's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Their site contains lots of data about events, programmes, statistics, publications, documents, partners, etc. The site can also be accessed in French, Spanish, Arab and other languages.

In Africa Education Page you'll find, in English and French, a lot of information on universities, associations, foundations and more from all Africa.

The site International Universities by Country offers links to universities in over 80 countries, some of them African. 

The website Education Index is a guide to the best and most useful education-related sites on the web. It has a lot information on Africa.

The website IPE Net, Resources Related to Africa offers extensive data sources for news and analysis on Southern Africa and the Horn of Africa.

In the site African Art Class, by  Olu Oguibe, at Univ. of South Florida, the  professor offers a rich selection of resources, photos, and details about African art from different periods and empires.

ICOM, the International Council of Museums has a special page about African Art History. You'll find a complete list of African objects with all their dates. Recommended! 

African Pottery Forming and Firing Techniques is an educational site, which offers photos with detailed descriptions of the forming and firing techniques used by African potters. 

 

Literacy

National Coalition for Literacy Endeavors to promote awareness of literacy issues.

National Center on Adult Literacy offers information, including NCAL publications, a literacy software database, and links.

The website Literacy Affiliate has a lot information about their program, reports, activities, etc.

Literacy Directory is the best site to find lots of links.

In the website Somali Education - RSC Refugee Service Center you'll see an essay that profiles the education system of Somalia from colonial era to our days.

Tostan is a Senegalese NGO, supported by UNICEF, promoting innovative basic education program that emphasizes literacy, numeracy, improving life skills and family income, and encouraging women to participate in village decision making. Interesting site, in English.

The website World Wide Classroom is one of the best sites in the web to find information about schools, universities and lower grade studies in general, among study programs from all around the world and in lot of lenguages. It contains a updated and complete list with some African countries.

Burkina Faso

Faso Contact contains all information on education in Burkina Faso: centers, programs, etc.

 

Cameroon
Cameroun Contact, in French, offers some information on study colleges and center in Cameroon.

Saker Baptist College, in Limbe, Cameroon, by the Baptist Mission. For girls.

 

Gambia
NiiCa's Gambia Pages has a listing of practically all schools in The Gambia, organized by provincial divisions.

Centre de Suivi Ecologique (CSE, Center of Ecological Survey) is a prestigious institution dealing with environmental studies. Good, updated and informative site with news, links and ample background information on the activities of the institute.

The Education Pages of Sénégal Contact (Refer) have the most complete list of educational institutions in Senegal. Links and addresses and very well organized. French.

The prestigious scientific institute IRD Senegal (previously ORSTROM) presents its scientific activities, library, general information and more on their ample web site. Especially good on environment and geography.
