Angola records high economic growth

afrol News, 16 May - Between 2002 and 2006, Angola’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has reached 89.6 percent, a General Programme Performance Report approved by the cabinet council reveals.

The fourth extra-ordinary cabinet council meeting chaired by the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos, approved the report. And in a statement, the council said agriculture, transforming industry and commercial services recorded unexpected growth – more than what has been planned.

According to the report, the annual accumulated rate of unemployment was at 25.2 percent. Consequently, the annual accumulated inflation rate was at 12.2 percent in December 2006, 6.3 percent less than the 2005 statistics. This figure was above the government’s forecast rate of 10 percent.

A report on budgetary, financial and patrimonial performance of the state budget for the 2006 fiscal year also got the approval of the cabinet council.

State executives are confident that it would be possible to keep the fiscal expenditures within the limits of the global budgetary credit because it highlights the measures to be implemented, the actions to be taken and the expected results in the customs, public business, privatisation, insurance, pension funds, prices and revenues policy.

Angolan council also endorsed a protocol on bilateral treaties between the country and Russia. This aims to strengthen the 13 years of cooperation existing between the two states.

State officials also approved an accord in the field of techno-military cooperation between Angola and Russia. A budget was also approved for the national secretariat in charge of higher education.
