Kenya suicide blast suspects arrested

afrol News, 13 June - The Kenyan police have arrested three suspects of the bomb blast that was detonated in the centre of the capital Nairobi on Monday. The casualty figure remains confusing but the blast reportedly left 37 people in agony of injuries.

At a news conference in Nairobi, the police spokesperson, Eric Kiraithe, spilled the beans to journalists.

He said though investigations are still ongoing but it is believed that the blast might have been caused by a rudiment device. Kiraithe said police investigations have not established the kind of explosives being used by bombers.

He said the elements so far gathered have excluded the possibility of linking the detonation to a suicide attack. The press was told that the target of the attack was different from the scene of the blast.

Local press reported that shortly before the explosion, the attackers attempted to board a bus headed to Nairobi International Airport, a supposed target of intended attack.

“We believe the suspects had reached their destination,” he said.

The explosion occurred just outside the City Gate restaurant, a place where Kenya-based Somalis, particularly those opposed to the Somali transitional federal government gather, with many people believing that two young Somalis who fled the scene ahead of the blast were involved could be suspects of the blast.

The story seems to be cloudy, as conflicting death toll figures were reported. Some reports raised the toll to at least five by yesterday.
