Nigeria sets Okah's trial date

afrol News, 25 February - The extradited leader of the Niger Delta militant group, Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) is expected to appear in court on 5 March.

The court is due to look into accusations advanced by Nigerian police.

The Abuja high court had earlier ruled against his release, but it allowed a visit by family members, lawyer and priest. And a visit by his family has allayed fears that he was shot death in captivity.

Okah, who founded MEND, was arrested in Angola some months ago on arms trafficking charges. He was extradited to Nigeria few weeks ago.

So far, MEND is the only militant group in the oil-rich region that has refused the government's conditions in exchange of a ceasefire. that has abandoned the government's conditions for a ceasefire.

The group dealt a big blow two years back after it had cut oil production by a quarter.

Meanwhile, the abducted Nigerian manager of Agip Oil Corporation, Feyi Dienye, was released unharmed by his captors.

He was abducted by unknown gunmen as he was going to work in Port Harcourt.
