afrol News, 16 June - Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi has blasted some African leaders opposed to his proposal for the creation of the United States of Africa, labeling them as a bunch of "reactionaries and traitors" bent on "plotting in the shade" principally to favour western interest and divide Africa.
Mr al-Qaddafi, who was on official visit to Togo, addressed thousands of people at a public rally in Kegué stadium in the capital Lomé. Without naming any African leader, the Libyan leader said "there are reactionaries and traitors within our midsts who believe in first building our regions before going ahead with the creation of the United States of Africa."
He said after all the failure of these regions has been contained in several study reports by African experts.
The Libyan leader could not fathom why all other "continents are coming together except Africa." He reminded African heads of state to be mindful of the fact that the continent's future hinges on forming a strong central government.
The Libyan leader also blamed "reactionarist and hesitant countries" for "betraying Africa" by allowing themselves to be influenced by America, Europe, China, India and Japan.
Col. al-Qaddafi warned "western puppet and reactionist leaders" to take a crucial decision before they are denounced public because "African Unity is for the people and not for a handful of self-sering leaders."
Flanked by his Togolese counterpart, Fauré Gnassingbe, Mr al-Qaddafi said asked why all other continents are united except Africa. "African peoples are mandated to lead the continent towards real unification," he said, threatening that Libya will "turn its back" to Africa if the upcoming African Union summit in July fails to adequately deal with the unity government agenda.
"There is no more space for bartering over Africa’s future. We will take responsibility for this historical mission, expose the reactionists and hesitants and ask for the dissolution of these fake regions created by colonialism."
The Libyan leader, was on his way to attend the summit of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States in Benin, spent the weekend in Lome.
