Gang robs South Africa bank

afrol News, 25 July - South African police confirmed the brought day light robbery of a Pretoria bank by a gang of eight armed men on Thursday.

The robbers posed themselves as clients to the Nedbank branch in Hillcrest Boulevard before ordering two tellers at gunpoint to hand over cash, Captain Colette Weilbach said.

The gang quickly went away with an unknown amount of money and escaped in a blue BMW and a white Volkswagen Jetta.

Police later spotted the vehicles forcing them to speed up their chase against the robbers. In the process, two Brooklyn police vehicles got involved in a collision that sent three police officers to hospital for sustaining minor injuries.

Two of the suspects have been arrested after the driver of the BMW has lost control of the vehicle near the Monument Park. The rest of the suspects who used the Volkswagen Jetta to escape are yet to be arrested.

Police have found a firearm and two money bags in the car of the suspects who all hailed from the commercial capital Johannesburg.

Both suspects are reported to have pending cases with police over their alleged involvement in similar crimes in the past.

Over the years, South Africans have been concerned about an increase in bank-related crimes, which includes breaking of ATM centres by burglars.
