NPP will accept December election results

afrol News, 28 August - Ghanaian ruling New Patriotic Party has vowed to accept December election results, even if it means losing, also appealing to all political parties to do same.

Former Trade Minister Alan Kyeremanteng urged political parties to advice their supporters against any act that would disturb electoral process, putting Electoral Commission into disrepute, he said while addressing a rally at Kwanyako.

Mr Kyeremanteng said if presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo would be given mandate, his administration would use proceeds from oil to develop country for all Ghanaians.

He reassured Ghanaians that there is more to be done when the party is given the mandate and called on the electorates to bring NNP into power to enable it achieve its vision of improving standards of living for all citizens.

"President Kufuor government has fulfilled all its campaign promises and these include National Health Insurance Scheme, free primary education, youth job creation and free maternal care," said Mr Kyeremanteng.

Meanwhile Nana Akufo-Addo, is calling for free, fair and peaceful elections, cautioning National Democratic Congress (NDC) against their propaganda strategy of giving impression that if they lose December polls it would be because polls would be rigged.

He told voters in Central Region that elections are a simple task where voters go into the polling booth to vote according to their conscience.

"It is not a fight, it does not call for violence and we would not allow a single Ghanaian blood to be spilled over this simple but important democratic expression of choice," he told his audience.

NDC parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, Baba Jamal said on Saturday that NDC was ready for a violent battle for takeover of power if NPP attempted to rig this year's general elections.

"We are not promising 'Kenya' situation in Ghana, but if NPP takes advantage of its incumbency to rig December general elections in its favour, then NDC has no option than to do everything within its power and means to take governance of this country by hook or crook," Mr Jamal was quoted.

But in response, Mustapha Hamid, Mr Akufo-Addo's spokesperson said NDC has no message, no credible track record and strong candidate, further mentioning that their structures on ground were weak.

He said NDC after being aware that NPP was winning, started throwing claims that NPP is laying grounds to rig elections when in fact they are preparing grounds against accepting defeat that will be fair and clean.
