African business leaders to chart way forward on continent's industrialisation

afrol News, 14 October - Africa's business leaders and politicians will meet this week in United Kingdom where they are expected to chart ways to realising the continent's industrialisation strategy.

The forum, which runs alongside conference of African ministers of industry is said to have already attracted some top business leaders from continent, according to organisers.

The invitation only CEO forum will bring together over 40 African Ministers of Industry together with African business leaders operating across the continent, to formulate a plan for AU Heads of State to endorse on the African Union Industrialization strategy, said a statement by Africa Investor, who are co-hosting event in partnership with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The strategy is designed to improve intra African trade and the continents international trade competitiveness.

Speaking on the initiative, Hubert Danso, Vice Chairman, Africa investor pointed out investors and investment promotion agencies are at the heart of Africa's industrialisation and this event will not only convene leading African CEOs and top performing businesses but also CEO's from African Investment Promotion Agencies who will convene at the event as part of the Afriipanet consultation taking place the same time.

The forum is an exclusive annual platform for leaders of African companies and multinational corporations operating in Africa to positively impact investment climate for industrial growth and competiveness, and has been organised this year in parallel to the African Union Conference of African Ministers of Industry (CAMI) hosted by the dti.

"The key to effective industrial policy-making is to make sure that government and private sector talk to each other constructively," said Lamine Dhaoui from UNIDO's Private Sector Development Branch.

"We have deliberately organised the Africa Investor-UNIDO CEO Forum alongside the Conference of African Ministers of Industry and the Meeting of the Heads of African Investment Promotion Agencies to give the participants a chance to mingle. We will also be using the opportunity to get feedback from the heads of some of Africa's largest companies on the African Union's Industrialisation Strategy."

A number of top business leaders have been confirmed to attend forum, which will also lead to prestigious Africa investor Investment Awards showcasing Africa's investment success stories of 2008.
