South Africa Politics SA elections commence in low gearafrol News, 20 April - Advanced voters in South Africa started in a slow flow to cast their votes today in major polling districts around the country.The advanced voting which qualifies voters such as those with physical disabilities, pregnant women, those absent on government service abroad, as well as election officials and security force members on election duty will continued until Tuesday.
According to the SA Independent Electoral Commission, those who will be temporarily out of the country on election day, for business also qualify, as long as they have registered and been approved to cast a special vote.
The rest of the nation will vote on Wednesday with the weekend having marked the end to the fierce campaign by the different political parties.
The ruling African National Congress which is tipped to win the race, though with a less than two-thirds majority, had the blessing of the attendance of former president Nelson Mandela, showing his support for the ANC.
Most of the opposition parties took the last round of the campaign to lambast the ruling party and its presidential candidate, Jacob Zuma, of corruption, lack of delivery and lack of upholding of the moral standards.
Many of the opposition leaders promised to chase aftert the dropped charges against Mr Zuma, saying the justice system had been wronged.
Special votes which followed on votes abroad last week, will be counted together with votes at polling stations on election day.
