SA petrol prices up again

afrol News, 29 May - The South African Department of Minerals and Energy has announced a further petrol price increase starting next week.

In a statement today, the department said all grades of petrol will increase by 16 cents per litre at midnight next Wednesday.

The new increase comes barely a month since the last increase by 3 cents in April. South Africa has seen an increase of about R1.45 per litre since the beginning of the year, with the main reason being given as the exchange rate and the international price flactuations.

The department said between 30 April and 29 May this year, the international price of Petrol, Diesel and Illuminating Paraffin had increased and the average Rand to the US Dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared to the previous period.

According to the new pricing, the wholesale price of Diesel, 0.05 percent sulphur, will however decrease by 12.9 cents per litre while the wholesale price of Diesel, 00.05 percent sulphur, will decrease by 13.9 cents per litre, the department announced.

It also said the price illuminating Paraffin will also decrease by 9 cents a litre and illuminating paraffin at the Single Maximum National Retail price will decrease by 12 cents a litre.
