Zambia
Zambia privatisation process still disputed

afrol News / IPS, 9 July - Zambia has sold some 262 state-owned enterprises in the past 18 years, with the latest being the telecom company Zamtel. A former privatisation agency chief says the process was "like grabbing goods fallen from a truck."
Burkina Faso
Burkina stops water, electricity privatisation

afrol News, 12 March - In a landmark decision, the government of Burkina Faso has decided to remove its water and electricity utilities from the list of state companies to be privatised. Defying the IMF, government rather decided it would be enough to restructure the companies' management.

Mali
Mali approved for more IMF disbursements

afrol News, 4 February - The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has completed the second review of Mali’s economic performance under a programme supported by the Extended Credit Facility (ECF). The decision also allows the government to request a further disbursement amounting to about US$3.1 million, which would bring total disbursements to Mali to SDR 21.99 million (about US$34.1 million).

Vast Egyptian land reserved for development

afrol News, 5 January - Tunisian authorities are planning to sell off shares in 12 state-owned companies this year in the process to speed up privatisation and boost economy, the state privatisation office has confirmed in a statement.
