Tanzania Mass FGM ceremonies planned in Tanzania
afrol News, 9 December - While Tanzania outlawed female genital mutilation (FGM) in 1998, mass FGM ceremonies are still going on, in particular in the November-January season. Activists expect over 5,000 girls to be cut "this holiday season".

afrol News, 9 April - The strongly harmful practice of female genital mutilation (FGM) is effectively being fought in Ethiopia's Afar region. Anti-FGM campaigns are supported by Muslim religious leaders, clan leaders and now even circumcisers themselves.

World Gender inequality still rife, World Bank report
afrol News, 17 March - Only 20 of 128 economies have equal legal rights for men and women in several important areas for entrepreneurs and workers, according to a new World Bank Group report, Women, Business and the Law 2010. Inequality occurs across all regions and income levels. But many economies have been legislating to reduce these inequalities, the report said.

afrol News, 15 March - Tanzania's many European donors have united to further push for gender equality and women empowerment in the country. An action plan will be presented tomorrow and development aid funds will focus on gender.

Africa Women's worst world-wide
afrol News, 8 March - A ranking released today, on Women's Day, reveals that among the top-ten worst countries for women, seven are African. Female genital mutilation, sexual and violence, lack of education, HIV risks and traditional discrimination are women's worst enemies in Africa.
