Targeting readers by interest: Rectangle banners

Rectangle banner campaigns on the afrol.com website can be easily booked at a very reasonable price.

This page only describes country or topic/section advertisement campaigns, using rectangle banners, to be exposed in the right sidebar only on relevant pages. For other formats or sizes, or for more general campaigns, see the "Advertising" front page on this link. There, also the CPM price system is better explained.

You can choose among topics (sections, such as economy or travel) and countries or regions (such as Ghana or North Africa) where you want your campaign exposed. Every section and country has its own front page, news page and archive. In addition, all articles and features (around 100,000 content pages in all!) are ordered into sections and countries/regions. This means that your ad can appear both on the country's/section's front pages and in articles and features treating the country/region or the topic (section).

When limiting your campaign to topic or country-related pages on afrol.com, the standard option (see Option 1 below) is to do just that - placing ads in both articles and front pages. This ensures you maximum exposure when targeting readers by their interest. In that case, you need to provide us with two banners (as articles and front pages have different formats). The two formats are: 345 pixels wide and 160 pixels wide.

A second, somewhat cheaper option is to place small ads (160 px) in articles and at the bottom of front pages. Less relevant, but still possible, is option 3, where you place your ad only on country/section front pages (345 px).

Important: All rates are calculated on a CPM-basis (the price for 1,000 impressions). There is a minimum order of at least €40 for each campaign.

Option 1: 345 and 160 px banners, reaching front pages and articles

Use this option if you want to become visible, with a guaranteed presence on every relevant page on the afrol.com website and the best visibility. The combination of extra visible 345 px banners (on relevant front pages) and 160 px banners (in relevant article) assures full coverage at a reasonable price.

Format: The standard format, for which the following prices apply, is as follows:
- Banner 1: 345 x 160 pixels
- Banner 2: 160 x 75 pixels
- Standard image formats: jpg, png, gif (also animated) are allowed
- Other formats: HTML and JavaScript banners are allowed (swf, see below)

Rates: Rates apply for banners following standards as outlined above:

- For file sizes over 75KB, an extra rate corresponding to the percent increase of the size will be applied
- For a greater height, an extra rate corresponding to the percent increase of the size will be applied. Any height is possible.
