Mountain gorilla population recovering

DR Congo gets US$ 7bn debt cancellation
afrol News, 18 November - The main creditors of Congo Kinshasa (DRC) have agreed to cancel Congolese foreign debts totalling US$ 7.35 billion. Much of the unsustainable debt was accumulated under ex-Dictator Mobutu Sese Seko.

Congo rapes suspected Rwandan rebel arrested
afrol News, 11 October - Rwandan rebel leader Callixte Mbarushimana, wanted internationally for war crimes and mass rapes in eastern Congo Kinshasa (DRC), was arrested in France today. He will be among the first to stand trial on these crimes in the DRC.

Cousin of smallpox virus spreading in DR Congo

Congo gorilla babies prepared for new airlift

Ugandan rebels increase terror in neighbour countries
afrol News, 14 May - There is now "a dramatic rise in the frequency and brutality of attacks" by the Ugandan armed group known as the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) against civilians in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and the Central Africa Republic. Uganda is asking neighbours to be allowed to take action.

UN plans troop pullout from DRC
afrol News, 13 April - The UN peacekeeping mission MONUC has announced it will start pulling out from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) already in July. The UN pullout comes after a request from the Kinshasa government.

afrol News, 30 March - The Kinshasa government has confirmed and condemned earlier reported massacres of civilians by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in north-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), calling on UN troops to arrest the LRA. The UN confirms it has launched an inquiry into the massacre.

afrol News, 10 March - Scientists are examining how to increase guinea pig production to boost food security in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where inhabitants keep the rodents as "micro-livestock". The researchers were originally puzzled to find guinea pigs in the DRC at all.
