Health development project financed
afrol.com, 07 June - The Board of Directors of the African Development Fund (ADF) approved today a loan of
US $10.62 million to finance the health system development project in Cameroon.
The objective of the project is to improve the health status of the population, through increased accessibility to integrated and high quality health care for the entire population and their full participation in the management and financing of health activities. It particularly seeks to improve accessibility to and the quality of health services in the Centre and South Provinces by strengthening health services, providing support for maintenance and strengthening the National Health Information System (NHIS).
The principal outputs of the project are the rehabilitation of 3 districts hospitals, the reconstruction of 6 health centres and the revitalisation of 6 health areas. It will also involve training of some staff in various areas of health, sensitisation workshops as well as the maintenance of biomedical equipment revitalisation and enhancement and the establishment of an Operational Health Observatory.
The loan will be used to finance the entire foreign exchange costs and 50.53 % of the local currency expenses of the project, the total cost of which is estimated at UA 9.10 million (approximately US $12.01 million). It is repayable over 50 years including a 10-year grace period.
Bank Group operations in Cameroon started in 1972. To date, the Group has committed a total of US$ 653.48 million on 39 operations. Of this amount, about US$ 577.03 million has been disbursed.
