Angola opposition claim intimidations ahead of polls

afrol News, 7 July - As Angola heads towards its constitutional elections on 5 September this year, minority opposition parties are already crying foul of intimidation and violence against their supporters by ruling party's youth league. A statement released by Frente para a Democracia (FpD) claimed today of acts of intimidation that may force the party to miss today's deadline for submission of party supporters' signature endorsing their candidature.

Angola to hold first elections in 16 years

afrol News, 4 June - The Angolan government has announced that the country finally is ready to hold its first elections since 1992. Polls are slated for 5 September this year. The opposition, centred on the ex-guerrilla group Unita, has accepted the ex-Marxist MPLA party of President José Eduardo dos Santos to stay in power since the end of civil war in 2002.
