afrol News, 2 November - With progress made turning the Burundian economy into a post-conflict stage, the World Bank today has approved a grant of US$ 25 million to further economic reform in the country. Now, also the coffee sector is to get back on its feet.

afrol News, 14 July - The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) yesterday completed the second review of Burundi’s economic performance under the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF) arrangement and approved the immediate disbursement of an amount of about US$10.2 million) under the programme. afrol News, 19 May - Eleven people accused of attacking and killing albinos in East Africa over the period of six months are in court facing charges of murder and attempted murder. At least 12 albinos were murdered and mutilated in the six months until March this year in Burundi and more than 40 since late 2007 in neighbouring Tanzania. The accused have however denied the charges. Read more

afrol News, 18 February - Burundi senators have voted against the amendment in the bill criminalising homosexuality in the country. Last November, the lower house of parliament passed the bill making same-sex acts punishable by between three months and two years in prison. Read more
