afrol News, 31 January - Frédéric Bitsangou, an ex-ninja rebel leader has now opted for democratic means to participate in the development of Congo Brazzaville after he had registered his own political. afrol News, 8 December - In and around the giant Lossi Sanctuary in north-western Congo Brazzaville, thousands of great apes are dying at rapid speed. Researchers hold they have finally found proof that Ebola is killing large numbers of gorillas and chimpanzees, but were unhappy to note the scale of deaths, which could threaten the entire population of gorillas.

afrol News, 17 November - The next Ebola outbreak should be expected to occur "in northern Congo Brazzaville, towards Cameroon and the Central African Republic," according to African scientists that have closely studied the pattern of the deadly disease. They found that Ebola affect many Central African mammals besides humans and that the disease fluctuates with climate variables throughout the Gabon-Congo region, making predictions possible.

afrol News, 21 March - The government of Congo Brazzaville today organised a weapons-burning ceremony to symbolise the reconciliation process in the country. The ceremony was headed by Congolese President Denis Sassou-Nguesso, who brought visiting UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan to the Brazzaville event. The two jointly set fire to a pile of armaments.

afrol News, 5 April - Great difficulties meat a three-year operation to repatriate some 58,000 refugees from Congo Brazzaville to Congo Kinshasa, which starts later this month. Roads in the region are little more than rough tracks, sudden torrential downpours are common and it can take up to ten hours to travel only 100 kilometres. Some of the journey will be on foot.

The ten countries to sign the landmark treaty include Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Congo Kinshasa (DRC), Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda and São Tomé.
