Society Lesotho steps up child protection measures
afrol News, 2 May - As part of Lesotho's initiative to curb the escalating child abuse, the Maseru Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with other partners launched the Child Helpline in Maseru earlier this week. The facility which would be housed at Lesotho Save the Children, would enable children to report all forms of abuse and encourage children to raise their views.

afrol News, 25 February - An overview of development cooperation partnerships between African and donor countries had revealed that Lesotho has ended up as the most "undeservedly overlooked" country, according to an analysis by the journal 'African Future'. Despite good governance, relative democracy and heavy needs due to the AIDS pandemic and droughts induced by global warming, only Ireland sees Lesotho as a major development partner.

afrol News, 26 June - Thabo Thakalekoala, one of Lesotho's most prominent journalists and media activists, is charged with "failing to report subversive activity" after first being detained for three days on treason charges. Mr Thakalekoala had read out an open letter calling for the arrest of the entire government over corruption charges.

afrol News, 2 April - Over 60,000 orphans are to benefit directly from what the UN calls "a landmark partnership", sealed by the government of Lesotho, the European Commission (EC) and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF). afrol News / Gender Links, 15 March - In Lesotho, like the majority of the Southern African countries, the advancement of women in politics continues to lag behind. In the February polls, just 28 women parliamentarians were elected out of 120 in the national assembly - merely 23 percent. This came as a disappointment after local elections in 2005 that saw a majority of women being elected.

Politics New Lesotho cabinet sworn in
afrol News, 8 March - Lesotho's new cabinet ministers have been sworn in at a ceremony led by Chief Justice Mahapela Lehohla in the presence of King Letsie III, Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili at the Royal Palace premises in the capital Maseru. Lesotho's February election were won by the ruling party, and despite previous concerns, went off violent-free and transparently.

afrol News, 19 February - The ruling Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) us leading the weekend's legislative polls in which over 1.8 million citizens voted. The LCD had polled 30 constituencies out of the 80 contested seats, while its main challengers, the newly founded opposition group All Basotho Convention (ABC) won 15.

Politics Will Lesotho hold peaceful polls?
afrol News, 16 February - 1.8 million voters in the Southern African kingdom of Lesotho go to the polls on Saturday to elect their law makers. It is expected that a newly coined opposition All Basotho Convention (ABC), which is a breakaway party from the ruling Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD), will sweep the polls.
