Niger rebels deny ceasefire

- The umbrella body of the Niger Movement for Justice (MNJ) has denied its readiness to lay down arms and vowed to continue armed revolt in the northern region.The Taureg led rebel group said it would only agree to ceasefire provided all its "legitimate demands" were met by the government.
MNJ has had fierce battles with Nigerien government over control of the northern region. Its rebellion, which came to its height in 2007, were fueled by the exploration of uranium in the region.
The group has demanded a greater share of uranium revenues for the development in the areas dominated by the Taureg communities.
In a statement, the rebels led by Aghaly Alambo accused the Niamey government of peddalling "treacherous" and "unfounded information."
Libyan leader Colonel al-Qaddafi whose government has been trying to find a lasting solution to the conflict warned the MNJ that they would be wrong to fight injustice with arms alone. He promised to launch a thorough investigation into the Tuareg's claims of discrimination in Niger and Mali.
