SA lion killer enjoys parole

afrol News, 21 August - One of the men sentenced to life imprisonment for assaulting and throwing a person's body to the lions in Hoedsprt, South Africa in 2004 has been set released on parole, correctional services confirmed.

Mark Scott-Crossley's release has been announced by the co-ordinator of correctional services for Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West, Sarie Peens.

Chisale, who had been helping to build a lodge on Scott-Crossley's Engedi game farm, was fired and killed upon return to collect some of his belongings. His body was then thrown to the lions.

In 2005, Scott-Crossley was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Phalaborwa Circuit Court for assaulting and throwing Nelson Chisale's body to the lions. His murder conviction of the death of Chisale was in September 2007 substituted to a five-year sentence by the supreme court of appeal in Bloemfontein.

Scott-Crossley has been released under correctional services supervision until the end of the remainder of his five-year sentence. He would be visited by correctional services officials at home and at work.

"He is also compelled to visit the correctional services offices and he is expected to do some community work as well," said Peens.
