Violence spread to other Nigerian states

afrol News, 27 July - Violence led by Islamist militants has been reported to be spreading to other states in northern Nigeria despite measures by the state to bring down the attacks.

More than 39 people were reported dead after Sunday clashes between militants and the police in the city of Bauchi, the Nigerian Taliban group has launched attacks against the state.

Two more northern states of the country have been reported under attack by militants following the failed take-over of a police station in Bauchi yesterday.

The Governor of the state has imposed a curfew, while the search for the militants continues.

Reports were not clear as to how many of the killed people were members of the police, with just one confirmation that at least one of the deceased was a member of the army.

Islamist militants have been on the come back in recent months claiming they want a strict Sharia law in the northern states.

In February, five people were killed in religious clashes in Bauchi, while in November last year, some 700 lives were lost following clashes between Muslims and Christians in Plateau state.
