Spitting diplomat send homeafrol News, 14 December - A Canadian diplomat who recently spat on a policeman and a journalist in Tanzania has been recalled.Reports from Tanzania have also said the Canadian High Commissioner to Tanzania, issued a statement regretting the incident.
"In the best interest of all involved parties, the Canadian official will be leaving Tanzania at the earliest possible time and will return to Canada," the statement was quoted in the media.
The diplomatic saga which almost soured relations between Canada and Tanzania follows an incident on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam where a TV journalist was allegedly spat on after he went to the Central Police Station where the diplomat was taken after being arrested.
The Canadian official who was freed because he had diplomatic immunity had earlier also allegedly spat on the face of a police officer, enraged for being held on a long traffic que-ue.
The statement by the Canadian High Commission reiterated that Canadian employees posted abroad were held to a high standard of professional conduct in all their relations with officials in their host country.
Canada and Tanzania have a long history of development cooperation since the late 1960s, in sectors such as education, transport, agriculture and health.
