Lonely Planet, the famous publisher of budget travel guides, has pages on each African country. Travel in Africa is an info site, mostly specializing in Southern Africa adventure travel, with general info, safaris, car rentals, overland trips, etc. Something of the closest you get a portal on African travel. Based in Pretoria, South Africa. Recommended.

Algeria
The National Office of Tourism of Algeria offers updated information in English, French and Arab. It contains a special report on the International Tourism and Travel Exhibition "SITEV'2000.

Botswana
The Government of Botswana Website offers links with its ministries, news, information on tourism, economy and business in Benin. Relatively updated.

Burkina Faso
The Government of Burkina Faso Website contains some basic information (only in French) on its history, economy, tourism, etc.

Cameroon
The Wide Web Home Page of the Republic of Cameroon provides some  information from Cameroonians about The Republic of Cameroon; its geography, the warmth and friendliness of its people, its government, its economy, its cultures and traditions, and its communications infrastructures. Basic dates.

Minitour is the official site of the Cameroonian Ministry of Tourism (in French). The site is presently (April 2000) under construction, so you won't find more than addresses.

Cape Verde
Agência Nacional de Viagens S.A. (ANV) is the national travel agency of Cape Verde. The ANV performs activities as an agent for all services concerning transportation of passenger and cargo. Updated, basic site in English and Portuguese.

Côte d'Ivoire
The National Office of Tourism of Côte d'Ivoire, from  the Ministry of Tourism, offers, with a stimulating design, all tourist information about the country: practical data and more. French and the English version comes soon...

Egypt
Egypt Information Highway is the best site on the web an Egypt. Here you'll find some practical dates, among the cultural, tourist information, etc.

Rigby's World of Egypt offers all information about Egyptian art, history, galleries, tours, events and some links.

Gambia, The
The Gambia National Tourist Office in the UK gives you general travel information and helps you book travels to The Gambia.

The Official website of The Republic of Gambia contains some basic dates about the country. government, tourism, etc.

Geir Tyldum's Fast Travel Info The Gambia brings you general travel information and lots of maps. Informative about climate, prices and transportation.

NiiCa E-Commerce's Gambia Page has general travel information, ample background information and more.

The Gambia Story gives you experiences from "the smile of West Africa", with pictures, maps and links.

Momodou Camara's page About The Gambia has some general information and pages about the Stone Circles and Gambian culture.

Gambia Tourist Support is a new, informative UK site with "the aim of making The Gambia an even better place for Tourists". The GTS-concept basicly is providing members with Gambian hosts at arrival, to experience the world outside the hotel. Their page contains one of the most ample guides to The Gambia, including restaurants, hotels, destinations, etc. Resource page. Use the Site Map to navigate!  

The Village Museum is a Dutch site about life in a Gambian compound, music, arts and crafts, cermonies dishes and the nature of The Gambia. Especially for school groups.

Ghana
The website of the Government of Ghana offers all type of information on the country, in English, but not-updated.

Kenya
The Kenya National Tourist Office in the UK gives you general travel information and helps you book travels to Kenya. 

Kenya Hakuna Matata! is a German page with interesting background information on several Kenyan destinations, including the cities. There also is an English version.

The Kenya Wildlife Service is a governmental agency, playing a leading role in developing sustainable nature tourism and maximising the economic benefit to the nation by minimising negative environmental impacts. Their highly informative website has information on Kenyan travel destinations, accommodation, parks and reserves, scientific services, etc. On their parks and reserves page, you'll find ample information about a long list of national parks and reserves. Recommended!

Safariweb is the main entry to safaris in East-Africa. Very informative site with focus on sustainable tourism. Visit their page on National Parks, Reserves & Recommended Safari Circuits, or enter their Guide to Kenya. Links to tour operators. Recommended!

Visit Africa Limited is a leading provider of safaris to East & Central Africa. There are pages in English, French and Spanish. Other tour operators include Safari Partners, Lexinda Tours and Technical & Study Tours, the last arranging a large number of excursions in Kenya.

Utalii Tours and Safaris Ltd. by Victor Astray has a Spanish presentation of Kenya as a tourist destination. Informative site with links.

Mauritania
The Official Site of the Government of Mauritania has updated information on national institutions, ministries, the president, among information about Mauritania in the Expo of Hanover 2000! Only French version, but the English and Arab comes soon.

Morocco
The Moroccan National Office of Tourism presents a short introduction on the culture, tourism and practical data to travel to Morocco. Its news service is out of order. Only French.

Namibia
The Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Namibia has a interesting site with updated relatively updated information of the country, which is well structured by areas. 

Niger
Ecotourisme Girafe is a Nigerien travel site with a lot information about the country and with special interest in the Nigerien flora and fauna. In French.

Conseils & Services et Voyagues is the national office travel with a lot of information about tourism in Niger. In French.

Senegal
The website The Republic of Senegal, by Amadou Thiam, a member of the Senegalese Senate, is dedicated to the Senegalese who live outside Senegal. It contains information on culture, business and more.

The Ministry of Tourism of Senegal have own page with a lot of information about what's happening in the country. Relatively updated.

The official Dakar-pages are found on the Rapide government server. Entrances to the communal government offices and touristic background information about different destiantions in Dakar, such as Île de Gorée and public holidays and festivals.

Ambiance de vacances à Pikine, (Senegal),  is a collection of articles in Le Soleil Cahiers & Speciaux about the festivals, cultural life, nightlife, vacations, etc. in Pikine. All in French.

Seychelles
The Seychelles Tourist Office is a complete tourist guide to the country. Here you'll find all basic facts and some extra information. Updated.

The Seychelles Tourist Office in London is regularly updated and offers a well structured information. Nice site.

South Africa
South Africa Government Online is the official site of the government and the most complete to find links to all ministries, institutions and official sites on South Africa. Daily updated news service. Links to the governmental sites with tourist information.

Swaziland
The Swaziland Government Online offers updated news, reports, policy documents and links to the government ministries, among some tourist information.

Tanzania
Tanzania Tourist Board offers complete tourist information with its interactive map, chat and discussion area, among all information on safaris and other activities. No regularly updated.

Tunisia
The Tunisian Official Tourism Office offers the most updated information about all tourism activities in the country.

Uganda
The website of the Government of Uganda is daily updated, with link to the parliament, all government offices and  institutions, services and district profiles.

Air Afrique, with services in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central Africa, Chad, Gabon, Côte d'Ivoire, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal has a website with all information about it. In French and English.

Cameroon
Cameroon Airlines has a website informing about its travel destination, though it doesn't seem much updated.

Cape Verde
TACV (Air Transports of Cape Verde) is the national airway company. Informative site with fares, destinations, offices, schedules, etc. Regularly updated and in English.

Mauritius
Air Mauritius today serves 29 destinations across 4 continents with more than 80 departures per week from Mauritius. Here you'll find all data about its services.

Morocco
Royal Air Maroc offers in its website a lot of information about the company and their programs and projects, not too on practical data. English and French.

Senegal
SONATRA (Société Nationale de Transport Aérien du Sénégal) gives you information about the flights and tariffs of Air Senegal, useful addresses and more.

South Africa
South Africa Airlink covers lots of destinations in South Africa. It offers all information on its flights and other practical data.

The Embassy of Algeria in Washington, United States of America offers updated information on economy, commerce, news and reports...

The Embassy of Algeria in London has a website where you'll find practical data on the country, visas and tourist information. Not updated. 

Angola
The site of the Embassy of Angola in Washington contains basic information about the country: art, culture, development, economy, etc. Also news, but not very updated.

The site of the Embassy of Angola in Madrid offers some interesting information in Spanish about Angolan art, tourism, geography and economy. In addition, it has a news service (not too updated) and a list in English, French and Portuguese about the best sites on the web were you actually can get updated.  

Cape Verde
The Embassy of Cape Verde in Washington, United States of America, offers basic information on Cape Verde and news, but  not updated at all. English.

Chad
Embassy of Chad in the US has some information about Chadian government and press releases about Chadian news. 

Congo Kinshasa
The Official Site of the Permanent Mission of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United Nations is not updated, but offers information on economy, business, culture, tourism...

 

Egypt
Egypt Government contains a large list with all Egyptian embassies and consulates from over the world.

 

The Embassy of Egypt in London offers only very basic information, but its state information service is daily updated.

 

Eritrea
The Eritrean Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, offers a large service of links to the most important African media and other services like tourist information, etc. Updated.

Ethiopia
The Embassy of Ethiopia in London offers links, information about tourism, business, culture, etc. in Ethiopia and a news service weekly updated. 

The Embassy of Ethiopia in Washington has a daily updated news service. Among, it offers a site search, a quick fast service and an special about  the conflict between Eritrea and Ethiopia.

Gabon
The Embassy of Gabon in Bonn, Germany, offers non-updated information ,only in German and French, about tourism, culture, economy...

Liberia
The Embassy of Liberia in Washington, United States of America, offers a updated news service, among some country information, which is not very large. 

Madagascar
The Embassy of Madagascar in Washington, United States of America offers daily news (not updated since 1997), but a lot of interesting tourist information. 

Malawi
The Embassy of Malawi in Tokio, Japan, contains information on the country, development and tourism...but only in Japanese...

Mali
The Embassy of Mali in Washington, United States of America offers every types of information and news about mali, but not very updated. The last updated was in 1997.

Mauritania
The Embassy of Mauritania in Washington, United States of America offers updated facts on the society, a geographic profile of the country, a large introduction to its policy and tourism information under construction....

Mauritius
The Embassy of Mauritius in Washington, United States of America is frequently updated and offers some practical  information about how travel to Mauritius.

Morocco
The Embassy of Morocco in Buenos Aires, Argentina has a lot of information on Morocco: history, music, culture, tourism, business, investments, etc. In general, every information is in Spanish, but you can find some articles in English or French without previous notice...Not regularly updated.

Mozambique
The Embassy of Mozambique in Washington has some links to the most important institutions and governmental sites of the country, among some basic information on Mozambique, not very updated. 

Nigeria
The Consulate General of Nigeria in New York has a special news service, regularly updated and some information on tourism and basic facts.

U.S. Embassy  has his own website with a good information service.

Niger
The delegation of Niger at UNESCO has a website with a Nigerien news services, links and of Niger Cultural World heritage. In English.

Rwanda
The Embassy of Rwanda in Washington, United States of America has a updated list of articles on different themes. economy, culture, etc in Rwanda. It offers too basic facts, events and news relatively updated.

Senegal
In the page of the Foreign Ministry of Senegal, you'll find a complete list of Senegalese embassies and consulates and foreign representations in Senegal. There is an English entry to these government pages, but it hasn't been updated since 1995. Still, you might find some useful information here.

Sierra Leone
The Embassy of Sierra Leone in Washington, United States of America offers only some practical and bureaucratic data if you will travel to Sierra Leona.

Uganda
The Embassy of Uganda in Washington, United States of America promises a lot of services, but is not updated since 1997...

Zimbabwe
The Embassy of Zimbabwe in Washington, United States of America offers rudimentary facts on the embassy and Zimbabwe. Not updated.

On Amazon.com  you can find a buy a lot of  travel books and literature. They have the most complete list of travel literature on the web. 

Chasing the Lizard's tail by Jens Finke is a travel tale on a bicycle ride across the Sahara by the author. The trip took him from Morocco, through Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal and finally to The Gambia. The whole book is published on the Web.
