AIDS orphan numbers at global high

afrol News / PlusNews, 17 July - Zambia has one of the world's highest numbers of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, UN Development Programme (UNDP) officials said last week.

UNDP Resident Representative Aeneas Chuma told a press conference in the capital, Lusaka, that children in households already weakened by AIDS usually sought alternative means of survival on the streets, increasing the vulnerability of an already struggling generation.

Chuma called for better interventions to be put in place for the country's orphans and vulnerable children.
